About Nickeled and Dimed

Starting out as a site dedicated strictly to personal finance, Nickeled and Dimed has evolved into a site focused primarily on Generation Y

As members of Gen Y, we are currently faced with many problems.  A financial crisis we had almost no part in creating has created the worst economy since the Great Depression.  This, combined with outrageous education costs, have left us entering the “real world” with massive amounts of debt and a treacherous job market.  Those of us who are lucky enough to find a regular paycheck after college will be forced to put a good chunk of it in a social security fund that we will almost certainly receive no benefit from.  Times are tough, jobs are scarce and the recovery is no where in site.

But we also have many advantages that weren’t available to past generations.  Social media alone has changed the entire landscape of networking and job hunting.  Never before has it been so easy to make connections with anyone in the world.  With online medias like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Linked in, we are able to both stay in touch with friends and form new contacts in a matter of seconds.  The possibilities of what the Internet will do for both our professional and personal lives are nearly endless.

While Nickeled and Dimed will still have a primary focus on personal finance, it will be geared more specifically toward Generation Y.  There will also be topics that relate to our generation outside of personal finance covered here.  I am completely open to any and all suggestions or criticisms (constructive or otherwise) you have about the direction of this site.  I’m sure there are still changes to come as the site grows and finds its audience.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason.  I would especially like to hear your questions, suggestions and story tips, which you can send to josh@nickeledanddimed.com.
